Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) was the undisputed champion at 168 pounds before the IBF stripped him of the belt in July after Alvarez decided to face Berlanga instead of the organization's No. 1 mandatory challenger, William Scull.
The 34-year-old Alvarez has won titles in four divisions, and he's coming off a unanimous decision victory over Jaime Munguia in May. Since his loss to Dmitry Bivol in May 2022 challenging for a light heavyweight title, Alvarez has won four consecutive fights, all by unanimous decisions.

The face of boxing for the last five years or so has been Canelo Alvarez. The Mexican superstar has gone after history after becoming arguably the biggest PPV draw in the post-Floyd Mayweather era. He earned undisputed status at 168 pounds while many believed he was fighting above his best weight. Now, he looks to continue his incredible run on Saturday night in Las Vegas as a part of Mexican Independence Day weekend.
Alvarez will put his trio of titles on the line in the super middleweight clash when he welcomes unbeaten Edgar Berlanga to the ring inside T-Mobile Arena.
While many hoped to see Alvarez take on someone like David Benavidez or David Morrell -- two of the best fighters at 168 pounds in the last few years who did not get the chance to face him -- the champion opted instead of a matchup that could draw more eyes as it pairs the long boxing rivals of Mexico and Puerto Rico.
Alvarez is coming off a thrashing of his fellow countryman in May when he took out Jaime Munguia. Berlanga, meanwhile, started his career with a record-setting knockout streak in the first round of fights at 16. He has looked more human since then, but he did pick up a TKO in his last outing against Padraig McCory.
In addition to the big main event, PBC has loaded this card with former champions looking to knock off some ring rust after decent layoffs. WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara looks to defend his crown against former junior welterweight and welterweight king Danny Garcia in the co-main event. Garcia, 36, has just one fight in the last four years and gets this opportunity without ever fighting at 160 pounds. Elsewhere, former super middleweight champion Caleb Plant looks to get back in the win column when he takes on Trevor McCumby. Plant has also been somewhat inactive with just two fights in three years, including a decision loss at the hands of Benavidez. The card also features the return of former champions Rolando "Rolly" Romero and Stephen Fulton.
Let's take a closer look at the full fight card with the latest odds below before getting to more information about the main event.
